how to pick the perfect peach

  • Always handle peaches gently because they bruise easily, especially if you're picking ones that are ready to eat off of the tree.
  • Use the sides of your fingers more than your fingertips for picking and pull gently
  • If the peach does not release, it is not ripe enough to pick.  Move on to another one.
  • We recommend looking for a well rounded shape as it is a better indicator of ripeness than color
  • We recommend picking some peaches that give a little when you pinch their bottom, and others that are a bit more firm to the touch so you have a variety
  • Peaches are very perishable so only pick what you can eat in a couple of days unless you are cooking or freezing a bunch
  • Peaches should smell sweet
  • To soften up your peaches, lay them in a single layer on your countertop
  • To keep them from softening more, refrigerate them
  • Peaches will not sweeten any more once picked, but they will soften
