People ask about our farm name all of the time. It is a little unusual. We have a strong Irish lineage, but the name comes from an actual place. John Thompson was the current owner's great-great grandfather and he was wounded fighting on the union side in the Civil War at the Battle of Irish Bend in Louisiana in 1863. He was wounded on the battlefield when he received a bullet through the jaw. Thereafter, he always wore a beard and went on to have a successful career as a farmer and state legislator. We chose this name to honor our family's past and to remind us that it takes courage to fight for what you believe.
